  • The International Air Transport Association (IATA), International passenger forecasts place the Middle East and North Africa as the largest region for growth worldwide climbing to 6.8% ahead of the global average of 5.1%.
  • Carriers in the Middle East recorded an 18.1% increase in passenger demand in 2007. This was the highest among all regions, resulting from strong regional economies, the impact of oil wealth, expanded capacity and new routes.
  • Expansion plans at airports in the region amount to US$38 billion while in 2012, the 10 leading airports in the Middle East will have a combined capacity of 320 million.
  • The cruise season will see the port of Dubai handle 200,000 passenger movements between 2007-2008, while over 98,000 cruise passengers are expected to arrive at the Oman capital during the winter 2008 season.
